Billy MacKenzie killed himself in his father's shed on January 22nd, 1997. As the singer in The Associates and as a solo singer he had made some remarkable and dazzling pop recordings. Robert Smith dedicated "Five Swing live" EP (1997) and released a single called "Cut Here" (2001) to Billy McKenzie and The Creatures released a single called "Say" (1999) for him.

You can visit the 'Fiction' records page dedicated to' The Associates with one of the best  non-Cure album available from the Fiction label and called 'The Affectionate Punch'  (FIX 05) - Unfortunately never issued on CD !!!
